Short Story Open Competition 2020 - Information and Prizes

What We are looking for:

Stories On a Theme of your Own Choice

  • Between 1,500 and 1,800 words. 

  • Font to be used: Times New Roman 12.


The competition rules can be viewed and downloaded as PDF on from this website.


Hard-copy story entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form which can be downloaded from this website.

Closing date: 1 March 2020

The Prizes:

1 st prize is a £100 cash prize

2 nd prize is a £50 cash prize

3 rd prize is a £30 cash prize


A short-list will be drawn by experienced readers for our judge, Carole Ann Smith, to adjudicate.

Entry Fees The entry fee is £5 for a single story or £7.50 for two stories.

You must send your story as a hard-copy by post with a cheque to:

Please ensure that your payment can be cross referenced to your story entries.

Cash will not be accepted.

Please Remember

Entries should be sent by post as a hard-copy, with the correct postage. Folded, your entry should fit into an A5 envelope, which requires an ordinary stamp. However, if you choose to use an A4 envelope, a Large Letter stamp is needed. Letters withheld at the post office, due to insufficient postage will not be collected and paid for.
